Résumé : |
This research aims at presenting the origin of the Kurdish issue in the Middle East
and the political development of the Kurdish issue towards the establishment of a state in the
last seventy years. It also sheds light on some historical facts after the First World War, which
were the main causes of the emergence of the Kurdish problem. Beginning with introducing a
historical overview of the fall of the Ottoman Empire and presenting how the Kurdish
problem appeared, then introducing the Kurdish minority and how the Kurds interact, through
national movements and use the political struggle to attract world attention. In addition, this
work examines the movements and the support of the United States with the Iraqi Kurds
between 1968-1974 and 1990-1995. In the first period, behind the American involvement the
purpose was to contain The Soviet expansion in the area and destabilize the Iraqi regime at
that time. In the second period, this support was due to the strategic importance of the area
where the Kurds live, and the natural resources available there and to dominate the region as a
superpower. Besides, this research aims at analyzing the various problems facing the United
States in the region as a result of a potential engagement with Iraqi-Kurds from creating
antagonism and collision between different countries and within the United States because of
their interest in the region. It shows that a possible independence of the Iraqi-Kurds is not
easy to achieve regarding the Obstacles either on the international scene or among the Kurds
groups themselves which would badly affect American interests and destabilize the region at
the present time. |
