Résumé : |
This study aims at investigating the effectiveness of note taking as a strategy for enhancing
EFL learners’ reading comprehension. This study is built around the hypothesis that second
year English students who take notes while reading printed materials, or handouts, are more
likely to show enhanced reading comprehension abilities. Interest in this topic stems from the
importance of note taking for second year students because it is mainly at this stage that
learners are required to rely much more on themselves to take notes for later study and
retention. In order to check the validity of this hypothesis, data are gathered through
questionnaires for both teachers and students of second year at the Department of English,
Frères Mentouri University, Constantine. On the one hand, the results revealed that the
majority of students are aware of the importance of note taking, and they do take notes while
reading print. On the other hand, the findings showed that teachers support note taking as a
strategy and motivate students to use it. Moreover, the participants think that there is a
positive impact of note taking as a strategy on enhancing reading comprehension as a skill. |
