he purpose of the present research is to raise students’ awareness towards the role of cooperative
learning (CL henceforth) strategy in developing their writing performance. The underlying
hypothesis is that if second year students of English become aware enough about the importance of
cooperative learning technique, their writing performance would be developed. The educational
setting in which this study takes place is the Department of Letters and English language,
University des Frères Mentouri, Constantine. 60 students were selected randomly from a total
population of 359 second year students in addition to 17 teachers of Written Expression as
samples in the current study. In order to achieve the aim of the undertaken research, answer the
research questions and attempt to confirm that validity of the stated hypothesis, two tools are used;
namely teacher questionnaire and student questionnaire. Teacher questionnaire aims at exploring
teachers’ attitudes about their students’ awareness towards the role of cooperative learning in
developing their writing performance. Besides, student questionnaire seeks to check their stands
concerning the use of cooperative learning as a strategy used for the development of their writing
performance. The findings of the study confirm the hypothesis and indicate that learners who lack
some awareness across the significance of writing in cooperation, their consciousness is raised
towards it. Therefore, teachers are recommended to keep always raising their students’ awareness
by engaging them constantly in cooperative writing tasks and spotting some light from time to time
on the advantages of this strategy. |
