Résumé : |
The current research aims at investigating the effectiveness of external factors
(extrinsic motives, incentives) on the learners’ oral performance in the department of
English at the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine. The study attempts to
investigate the factors that can really push learners to be extrinsically motivated.
We hypothesise that if teachers use extrinsic motivation as a strategy in teaching the
speaking skill, learners would elicit their oral performance in the classroom. To
achieve the aim of this study and to test the hypothesis, two questionnaires were
administered to teachers of oral expression and first year students. The results
obtained from both questionnaires confirm our hypothesis; they show that both
teachers and students favour the use of external factors and believe that they are very
important for learning a second language. Accordingly, teachers are trying to
provide a comfortable atmosphere using motivating activities and feedback to help
students develop their oral production. Besides, learners are facing difficulties to
learn the English language which lead them to be less interested, even if they are
aware that the English language is important all over the world. So, they make
efforts to be motivated enough in order to develop their speaking skill. |
