The main interest in carrying out the current study is stimulated by the fact that EFL students
endure serious difficulties when it comes to the speaking skill. Hence, the main concern of
this study is to investigate the attitudes of oral expression teachers and second year EFL
learners at the Department of Arts and English Language, University –“des Frères Mentouri”-
Constantine, towards the use of oral presentations to improve learners‟ speaking
performances. It is hypothesised that oral presentation would help Algerian EFL learners to
enhance their speaking abilities. To check this hypothesis, we administered two
questionnaires for fifteen oral expression teachers as well as seventy students at the
Department of Arts and English language, University –“des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine.
After handing back the questionnaires and analyzing the results, we have concluded that oral
presentation is beneficial in enhancing students‟ speaking abilities, and that both teachers and
students have a positive towards it. Finally, some recommendations are proposed to help
teachers in their way of teaching oral expression. |
