Résumé : |
The present study aims at analysing six conversations provided by twelve first year Master
students of English at the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1 in order to see
whether women make use of euphemism in their speech more than men. Through corpus
analysis, this study intends to answer two main questions about the relationship between
gender and language use and gender and the use of euphemism. It was hypothesised that
women make use of euphemism more than men; however, the analysis reveals that neither
women nor men use euphemism. Thus, gender does not affect the use of prestigious forms of
the language, more specifically, the use of euphemism. For, the hypothesis is rejected.
