Résumé : |
Through this work, we aim at making students aware of the writing process stages, more
precisely the drafting phase and showing them the crucial role of writing several drafts
before arriving at the final version of their texts during the writing process. For this, we
hypothesized that if students are more aware of the importance of the drafting stage and
they are asked to write several drafts, they will become conscious of its importance and
will develop their writing ability. Our sample was second-year students from the
Department of Languages, University of Constantine. To investigate our hypothesis, we
administered two questionnaires; one for teachers and the other for our sample. In addition,
we conducted a test which consists of a pre-test and a post test. Through the teachers’
questionnaire, we collected data about students’ difficulties in writing and whether they are
aware of the writing process stages and they work though them or no. Through the
students’ questionnaire we collected data about students’ background knowledge about
writing and its stages especially drafting. In the test, students were asked to write twice
separately; in the pre-test and the post-test, we gave a course in between them where we
explained the writing process stages. It was under our supervision to control how they
write before and after the explanation. Our hypothesis has not been confirmed in both the
teachers and students’ questionnaires and the test; which were administered to our sample.
The results obtained from the students’ questionnaire contradicted with the results obtained
from the teachers’ questionnaire on the one hand. On the other, the results obtained from
students’ questionnaire contradicted with their performance in the test. Students seem not
to be aware of the importance of the drafting stage where they draft only a once. |
