The power flow problem known as load distribution is considered as one of the most important fundamental problems in the study of electrical networks. This problem has attracted researchers to find effective and adequate solutions. The use of flexible AC transmission systems ""FACTS"" is one of the most effective solutions to this problem. This work aims at presenting a detailed study that falls under the category of research that combines the use of different FACTS devices and methods of improvement or meta-heuristics optimization so that a high level of power flow improvement can be achieved. Initially, the arts state of the different works that are part of this research combination were established, then, the basic power flow equations were studied. Finally, the different FACTS devices as well as the most optimizing methods were presented. In addition, eight (08) applications were proposed, the main objective whose principal objective is to improve the power flow through FACTS devices: SSSC, SVC, STATCOM and UPFC as well as the use of optimization methods: PSO, GA and LCA that have been used to identify the weakest bus bars in the electrical systems and to find the optimal location, number and tuning of the proposed devices. On the other hand, interpretations, comments and comparative discussions were provided.Note de contenu :

For this objective we proposed two shunt family devices the STATCOM and the SVC of (3TSC+1TCR) type. We presented by details their structure and operating principle, we also developed their mathematical models in the synchronous reference (d-q), and shown the relations between the various variables of the network according to the control parameters of these two compensators. For the STATCOM we chose the MLI command, and a command system for the SVC (3TSC+1TCR) comprises 04 units (measurement system, PI regulator of voltage, distribution unit and the switching unit). We chose the method (Watt-Var uncoupled) for the identification of the STATCOM references, and we applied the PI regulator for the command of two devices. The results of simulation with MATLAB/SIMULINK validated the models used and they indeed showed that these two compensators carried out with a great effectiveness our crucial objective in the optimization of reactive power and the voltage compensation in the test network studied. At the end we made a short comparison on technical and economical plans between these two FACTS compensators.
