antennas having a wide band for wireless communications. The first part is concerned to
study planar antennas such as microstrip antenna (MSA) and dielectric resonator antenna
(DRA). The electromagnetic characteristics of both antennas are calculated by the finite
difference method in the time domain using the Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) as the
boundary conditions and Ansoft HFSS software. The results comparison shows that the
RD antenna offer high performance such as high bandwidth and a low quality factor Q.
In the second part, two new cylindrical antennas were designed and fabricated for ultra
wide band applications (ULB) (a bandwidth of 3.1GHz to 10.6 GHz). The first structure
integrates two antennas; one has a UW band for dynamic spectrum sensing and the other
has a narrow band for transmission, this antenna has a transmission coefficient less than
-20 dB which ensures effective integration. The second structure is an UWB dualpolarized antenna for transmission and reception of signals on two orthogonal
polarizations with a good separation between the two polarization ports

antennas with application to the realization of reconfigurable antenna. The dielectric resonator
antennas are important antenna for the flexibility and the ease of integration in wireless
systems (WLAN), where they allow to use several shapes (rectangular, triangular, etc) and
several power supplies (coupling slot, coaxial cable,etc.). We are also interested by the
coupling effect due to the presence of another antenna or a presence of a coupling slot. The
calculated program based on the FDTD method to modeling a dielectric resonator antenna, we
enable to calculate the reflection coefficient, the input impedance electrical and the magnetic
fields. The HFSS simulator is used to validate these results. Then, this study has been
extended to the conception and the fabrication of a reconfigurable dielectric resonator
antenna. For this purpose, we studied and simulated a reconfigurable antenna structure by
using two simulator (HFSS, CST), then we proposed another structure which is a triangular
reconfigurable dielectric resonator antenna simulated by CST simulator and fabricated in RF
laboratory, of the National Institute of Scientific Research, INRS, Canada. The numerical
results are presented in terms of the reflection coefficient, radiation pattern, gain, and
efficiency. In addition, we have studied an dielectric resonator antenna with reconfigurable by
diodes PIN. Two distinct radiation patterns were obtained by maintaining the same resonance
frequency, which shows that the insertion of electrically-driven semiconductor components
into the antenna base structure provides an effective means for reconfigurability of the
radiation

The objective of this work concerns the study, design and development of compact antennas for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) applications. This work is divided into two essential parts. In the first part, we have presented the theoretical study, characteristics of compact UWB antennas and generalities of UWB technology. We also detailed all the necessary points related to the terms of the UWB compact antennas such as, the bandwidth enlargement of the compact planar antenna, the different geometries of compact antennas and the iniaturization techniques. Then, a state of art on UWB compact antennas was carried out to show the different techniques that are used in compact UWB antennas. The second part of this work is dedicated to the study, development and practical realization of compact UWB antenna structures operating in the 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz band. Two different antenna types are studied therein. The first type is a compact hexagonal planar monopole antenna with rejected narrow bands characteristics. This fabricated antenna shows a good agreement between measured and simulated results in terms of radiation pattern and reflection coefficient. The second type is a slot antenna with two feeding types. A compact slot antenna is fed by microstrip line. In this antenna, a stepped slot has been integrated in the ground plane to obtain an ultra-wideband resonance. In order to reject frequency bands, L-shaped slots are etched in the ground plane. After the fabrication process of this antenna, we have compared the measured and simulation results, which were very probatory. The other antenna is fed by coplanar wave guide (CPW) to achieve circular polarization. Both types of antennas have a very compact size compared to other antennas in the literature.

The first part is devoted to the theoretical study of the characteristics of this type of antennas, including conical forms, modes of operation and feeding techniques, and the description of the finite differences in the time domain (FDTD) method. Then, this method (FDTD) and two other simulation software ( CST Microwave Studio and Ansoft HFSS ) are used to calculate the electromagnetic characteristics of a new stacked dielectric resonator antenna proposed to operate at the frequency band allocated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for Ultra Wideband (UWB) applications, this band is between 3.1 GHz and 10.6 GHz. The second part of this thesis is focused on the practical implementation of the dielectric resonator antennas for wireless systems. The first fabricated antenna consists of a U-shaped resonator fed by an electric printed monopole. This antenna operates in the UWB spectrum and shows an omni-directional radiation pattern. Finally, two original structures that incorporate two hybrid antennas (dielectric / metal) are designed and manufactured. The two structures -proposed for cognitive radio (CR) applications, detection of weapons systems and medical imaging systems -show a transmission coefficient less than -20 dB, which allows an efficient integration.
