The steel beam is a fundamental element in the machinery, to select a body construction, it is
necessary to know their mechanical properties, especially the Young's modulus. This is the reason for that
our study concerns the determination and calculation of Young's modulus of a homogeneous and isotropic
beams.
The study is presented in two parts:
The first one is devoted to the literature review on the beams, these characteristics respectful and
distortion that suffered these beams and measured.
The second one is reserved for the determination of Young's modulus and for this, we use two
methods of calculation, the first is based on the Euler-Bernoulli’s theory to calculate the own modes of
beams considered, the second is based on Timoshenko's theory for determining the natural frequencies
and mode shapes by using an ANSYS program calculation.
The results obtained were allowed to make a comparison between the two theories. This comparison is
based on calculating the error on the Young's modulus, which allowed us to see that the Euler-Bernoulli
beams used in highly elongated, but the cons for Timoshenko's theory, is valid cases without significantly
shorter overhangs. |
