That supposes a reliable and relevant estimate strength and deformation properties of the grounds, for obtaining the suitable values of the parameters characterizing the rupture, of many research as well theoretical as experimental are offered.
The experimental way was largely explored during last decades and it was the subject of our study.
On the experimental level, the testing methods most frequently used for the validation of the models of behavior comprise primarily oedometric tests compression and shear tests to the traditional triaxial apparatus.
These tests constitute the basic tools for the knowledge of the behavior of clays and make it possible to follow ways of constraints or deformations simulating the real behavior of the works in place. In parallel, of the testing methods in situ (penetrometers, pressiometers, etc.) were developed in order to characterize the best possible behavior of clays in place. Although these tests have the advantage of being inexpensive and rapids to be carried out, of or their relative success, the results obtained difficult with is interpreted in term of laws of behavior of the grounds, because the ways of total or effective constraints follow-ups in these tests are badly known, the boundary conditions space are impossible to define, the conditions of drainage or are not known generally little, etc. These difficulties pose serious problems with the good in situ test schedule –and their exploitation, which allowed privileged people the laboratory, tests (oedometers, triaxial).
The objective of this study is the experimental characterization of the model of behavior of natural clays several sites of the area of Constantine, the test routine A made it possible to determine the form of the surface of load, which is controlled by the constraint of preconsolidation, it has an appreciably elliptic form inclined on the line µ O or Ko On the level of the laboratory tests we had interesting results concerning the strength parameters it and φ ', the param beings of deformations and the coefficient of earth pressure at rest Ko.

In Mila Province, Algeria (a.k.a Mila Wilaya), sensitive clays presenting shrinkage-
swelling phenomena are widespread, covering large areas. Due to this, constructions and infrastructures sustainability built on such soils is questionable. Such clays sensitivity is amplified by seasonal rainfall deficits which reaches extreme magnitudes. In order to develop disasters’ prevention measures, we present in this work, areas mapping susceptible to shrinkage- swelling phenomenon by adopting a French method developed by B R G M. This method takes into account three measurable characteristics: i.e. lithological, mineralogical and geotechnical, of clayey formations identified in the studied sector. Based on these characteristics, three scores are attributed for each formation. Then, the susceptibility index is the obtained score average for each clayey formation. The susceptibility map is established on this index basis with three classes: low, medium, high.Note de contenu :

The adsorption mechanism of manganese nitrate on this clay was studied by analysis of the isotherms of the cations exchanged from the vermiculite (K+ and Ca2+) and the ions (NO3- and Mn2+) adsorbed on the vermiculite. The kinetic of adsorption of the Mn2+ ions on vermiculite was found of pseudo-second-order type with a constant rate of 0,170 g.mg-1.min-1. The adsorption temperature dependence between 25 °C and 45 °C has demonstrated an endothermic and spontaneous dsorption.
The amount of exchanged Mn2+ ions in equivalent per gram represents only 17% of the total adsorbed uptake. 83% of the Mn2+ and NO3- ions have been adsorbed at the edges of the layers. The milling of the vermiculite has involved a decrease in the grains size and thus an increase in the edge layer adsorption site content allowing an increase of 19 % of the maximum adsorption uptake compared to raw vermiculite. The milled vermiculite was more grinded by sonication at 20 kHz.
Increasing of sonication time, presence of H2O2, and the increase of the vermiculite concentration have caused an accentuation of sonication effect, this resulted the decreasing of the size to 8 µm.
Moreover, a 2% fraction of submicron-sized particles was appeared. The pH of the vermiculite suspensions was increased. The number of the -OH sites was determined by acid-base titration using Gran method was also increased. The infrared spectra of the raw and sonicated vermiculites in H2O or containing H2O2 were very similar. XRD spectra showed that the sonication did not affect the vermiculite structure. The sonication leads to increase the maximum uptake by 31 %. The linear variation of the Mn2+ adsorption capacity with respect to the sum of the estimated geometric perimeter of the sonicated particles (assuming square shaped particles) confirms an adsorption
process at the edge of layers. The sonicated sample during 5 h in H2O2 has been grafted with butylimidazolium. This was realized in two steps. In the first step, we grafted 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane instead of the –OH sites. In the second step, we conducted a nucleophilic substitution of chlorine with methyl-imidazole.
