Our study was designed to identify second-year students’ pronunciation problems, as well as
their amount of exposure to English. To check all this, a questionnaire and a test were
designed. The purpose of the questionnaire was to gauge students’ potential exposure to
English used by native speakers, as well as the type of materials they were exposed to. The
test aimed at identifying some students’ pronunciation problems. Our analysis was restricted
to rhythm, the consonant /d3/ and the schwa. The results of both the questionnaire and the test
revealed that students did not listen to English much and, when they did, the materials they
were usually exposed to were not very helpful. Besides this, most students did not pronounce
correctly. At last, we think that constant exposure to good materials would hopefully resolve
this problem. |
