on the difficulties encountered when learning a foreign language and that hinder students’
progress in the process of foreign language mastery. One area that has received a significant
attention is grammar, for it poses a great challenge for students learning English as a foreign
language. Prepositions, more specifically, have long proved to be one of the major problems
these students regularly face. The present study aims at probing the reasons behind students’
misuse of these grammatical features, in particular the case of “in, on, at, and to”.
Furthermore, it aims to investigate the degree to which students tend to transfer from their
first language, and the extent to which most learners’ prepositional errors could be related to
their mother tongue interference. For the purpose of examining the hypothesized possibility
that the students’ prepositional errors could be related to the students’ mother tongue, we
gathered data relying on the analysis of exam copies of 50 L.M.D English Master Two
students from the Department of Letters and English, in Constantine 1 University. The aim of
this analysis is to look for the reasons behind students’ misunderstanding of the preposition
rules and what type of errors they commit. The analysis results revealed that inappropriate use
of prepositions is prominent among Algerian learners of English even at advanced stages of
their learning. Students’ misuse of prepositions is due to a multiplicity of reasons. Some are
the result of the overgeneralization of rules, others are due to learners’ misunderstandings of
rules, while another portion of errors appear to be the result of transfer from students’ mother
tongue. On the basis of this investigation it is suggested that students should learn
prepositions in their authentic context and think in English as a separate language that differs
from their mother tongue.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=2064 Mother tongue interference in the use of English prepositions “IN”, “ON”, “AT” AND “TO” : The case of master two students at the department of letters and english [texte imprimé] / Houssem Eddine Saghiri, Auteur ; Khaireddine Chenikhar, Auteur ; Farida Abderrahhim, Auteur . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : UNIVERSITE DES FRERES MENTOURI, 2014 . - 146.f ; 30cm.

Titre : The Effectiveness of Proofreading in Minimizing Spelling Mistakes in Students’ Writings. : The Case Study of Third Year Students, University of Constantine 01 Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Esma Benhammouda, Auteur ; Nour El Houda Bouchia, Auteur ; Nacif Labed, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : UNIVERSITE DES FRERES MENTOURI Année de publication : 2014 Importance : 51.f Format : 30cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Lettres et Langues Etrangères Langue Anglaise Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This research is the investigation of the effectiveness of proofreading in minimizing spelling mistakes in students’ writings; and at making students aware of the importance of proofreading, its usefulness, and its effectiveness. For this, we have hypothesized seriously that if students use proofreading after finishing writing, it will help them reduce their spelling mistakes .To check the hypothesis, we administered two questionnaires for teachers and students. Furthermore we administered a test to a sample of 25 3rd year students from the Department of Letters and English Language. The test included a pre-test and a post–test. The former was implemented to mark the spelling mistakes in students’ writings. However, the latter was about checking whether these mistakes have been reduced after introducing the proofreading sub-skill to students. The results obtained have shown that with proofreading students could significantly reduce the number of mistakes to make just a few. Thus, we can say that our hypothesis has been, to some extent, confirmed. Titre : The Impact of Manifest Destiny on the American Foreign Policy in the Middle East (1991). Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Imane Djellali, Auteur ; Fatima Hamadouche, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : UNIVERSITE DES FRERES MENTOURI Année de publication : 2014 Importance : 78.f Format : 30cm. Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Lettres et Langues Etrangères Langue Anglaise Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research looks into the impact of the Doctrine of Manifest Destiny of 1845
on the history of the United States of America. This expression was used for the first time by
the American journalist John Louis O'Sullivan in The United States Magazine and the
Democratic Review following the American claims to annex Texas. This ideology stated that
the United States of America is destined to extend throughout the American continent. The
Doctrine of Manifest Destiny had been associated much with the creation of United States of
America which gradually became the leading power of the world after the collapse of the
earlier European major powers in world politics. The first chapter provides a chronological
analysis of the American continental expansion until the creation of the United States of
America as a super power. The second chapter interprets the American economic goals of
Manifest Destiny upon the intervention in the Middle East in 1991. The third chapter studies
the continuity of Manifest Destiny through the American promotion of Democracy in the
Middle East.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=1311 The Impact of Manifest Destiny on the American Foreign Policy in the Middle East (1991). Titre : The Impact of Self-Esteem on the Students’ Academic Performance Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Yasser Oussalah, Auteur ; Hacene SAADI, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : UNIVERSITE DES FRERES MENTOURI Année de publication : 2014 Importance : 62.f Format : 30cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Langue Anglaise Lettres et Langues Etrangères Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Self-esteem has long been the subject of research among educators, psychologists and sociologists. The self-recognition of one‘s own worth, or the lack of it, can be an enduring trait which can be observed by researchers when they come to the analysis and interpretation of learners‘ achievement. High self-esteem is seen as desirable; we are supposed to want high self-esteem in a way that we are supposed to desire good physical health or prosperity. Therefore, high self-esteem is deemed to be good for individuals who have it but also good for the society as a whole. Our general problem is concerned about a better understanding of the relationship between self-esteem and students‘ academic performance. Our study includes a sample of 30 LMD third year students of English as a foreign language at Constantine 1 university, In order to analyze and interpret the data, a calculation of the correlation between the two variables would be adequate, the analysis of the correlation enables to reveal how stronger or weaker the relationships between such variables. The hypothesis of the research is concerned about the impact of self-esteem on the academic performance, and how it would play a very important role in leading to success or failure in higher educational environment. Globally the obtained results are not in the direction of our hypothesis. Finally, our goal is to find solutions to improve the self-image of the students, by advising them to trust their abilities by forgetting the fear and the fact of being judged, the enhancement can be seen in the better use of their potential both academically and socially.
