Résumé : |
This present study investigates the possible relationship between personality traits
extraversion-introversion, and the oral performance of second language students. To
appropriately address this issue, two research questions were proposed: Is there a
significant relationship between extraversion-introversion and second language oral
performance? Who orally perform second language better, extrovert students or introvert
ones? Eventually, two hypotheses were constructed, the alternative hypothesis which
states that extraversion-introversion has an effect on second language learners' oral
performance and the null hypothesis that denies the existence of this relationship and
states that extraversion-introversion has no significant effect on second language learners'
oral performance. Answering these questions and testing our hypotheses required a wellstructured
study. Therefore, forty one students of Third Year from The English Language
Department of Constantine 1 University were selected to serve as the sample of this study.
We collected the desired data from the sample by employing two means of research. The
first means was the questionnaire, it was used mainly to gather data about the participants'
personality orientation inside and outside the classroom, and also to provide a general
provisional data about students' speaking capacities and oral performance. The second
means was the observation, it was the most crucial step that would make our study
meaningful and complete. The same students' who participated in answering the
questionnaire, were observed and assessed during their oral performance. Ultimately, the
data from the questionnaire about students' personality was compared to the data obtained |
