We hypothesized that the lack of knowledge about the English culture results in misunderstanding or non-understanding culture bound use of English. To check the validity of this hypothesis, we administered a test and a questionnaire to a sample of Applied Language, Master One students of English at the Department of English Arts and Language, University of Constantine 1. The results of this field work revealed a high level of unawareness about the English culture among students in addition to their inability to understand the expressions that are tightly related to the target culture and frequently used by the English native speakers.
