Brexit European Union Article 50 of TEU Brexit negotiations. |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This thesis examines the different reasons that led Britain to exit the European Union or the
so-called ‘Brexit.’ It also investigates the phases of Brexit negotiations that took place from the
Referendum until the separation. This study investigates the hardships that faced Brexit negotiations
under Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union. This research stops at January 31, 2020. To
examine the UK-EU relations, this thesis uses a descriptive-analytical approach, which facilitates
the study of the events leading up to Brexit as well as the difficulties that faced the UK during the
negotiations. The main finding of this research is that the British Government led by Theresa May
played a major role in delaying the ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement. |

Dehumanization Kurt Vonnegut Slaughterhouse-Five Dystopia Postmodernism. |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This study examines the notion of dehumanization in Kurt Vonnegut's novel
Slaughterhouse-Five. Although Slaughterhouse-Five is considered a work of science-fiction
infused with anti-war, it features the notion of dehumanization as well. This unveils another
perspective of the novel, for dehumanization is a key dystopian element. First, this dissertation
introduces postmodernism and dystopia since they are important concepts for the understanding
of the novel. Second, it investigates the presence of dehumanization in Vonnegut's thoughts
about stories, and then detects the depiction of the dystopian concept in the characters.
Furthermore, this study highlights the causes of dehumanization and suggests that dystopia is a
prominent genre of the novel due to the presence of dehumanization throughout the work. |

Ngūgī Wa Thiong'o Neocolonialism Liminality The Inferiority
Complex and Hybridity. |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This dissertation focuses on the Kenyan society, and the different fundamental
changes portrayed by the Kenyan writer Ngūgī Wa Thiong'o in his novel Matigari.
The aim of this study is to investigate neocolonialism‟s effects that led the Kenyan
individual to experience the process of liminality. Based on Frantz Fanon‟s and Homi
Bhabha's ideas of “the inferiority complex” and “hybridity,” the postcolonial situation
and neocolonial practices have been analyzed in relation to liminal experiences in the
novel. This study demonstrates that the post-colonial Kenyan society that was
governed by neocolonial system made the Kenyan individual confused about the
present he is living, and the future he wants to reach. This confusion made him accept
and adapt to new changes in the future. |

Trauma criminality truth. |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This work examines the traumas of the protagonist’s childhood in Margaret Atwood’s
Alias Grace according to trauma theory. In order to establish a difference between her acts
whether they have been caused by the effects of her experiences on her personality or because
of her criminal instinct, this study is both theoretical and analytical. Atwood’s novel suggests
another version to Grace Marks story so that to make her readers discover their own truth
about this character and come to the conclusion that truth is inconclusive and subjective |

British and American Studies British Empire Conquest |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Centuries ago, Britain was the possessor of the largest empire in the history of colonial
Europe; global in both scope and demography. Having the strongest navy in the world, Britain
controlled all trading routes and overpowered many European rivals. The empire then became
a major source of wealth and political prestige. By the end of the 19th century appeared the
first signs of Britain’s economic decline and imperial retreat. Particularly after WWII, the
world witnessed the eclipse of the British Empire and the rise of Third World nations.
The present work aims to shed light on two periods in the history of the British Empire
through which the empire became known as the Commonwealth of Nations in view of two
inter-related factors: British imperialists’ clings to maintain an empire and nationalists
demands for independence |
