Résumé : |
For more than two hundred and fifty years, the State Department was the dominant
U.S. foreign policy agency, but during Nixon’s presidency, the Department and the
Secretary of state suffered a drop in influencing U.S. foreign policy. However, the
National Security Council which was created as an advisory body became prominent in
formulating U.S. foreign policy. Thus, the question that raises here is what roles the State
Department and the Secretary of State played in formulating U.S. foreign policy in the
presence of a strong and powerful NSC Advisor during Nixon’s presidency? This present
dissertation, attempts to examine the roles played by the NSC and its Advisor, and the
State Department and the Secretary of State in formulating U.S. foreign policy to figure
out the differences and the similarities between them |
