Résumé : |
This project is about the avoidance of phrasal verbs by Master One students in the Department of Foreign Languages. It will explain whether our feedback sessions together with our different devices are enough to build up a significant awareness on the importance of multi-word verbs in writing; in addition to that, if the feedback will encourage students to use these metaphorical expressions more often. We hypothesise that if Master One students understand the importance of phrasal verbs in writing, they will start using them. Our research experiment involved a sample made up of 25 students, they were first tested during a pre-test, then we held two feedback sessions separately; one in the form of a course and in the second, different materials were given to students to enrich their knowledge about multi-word verbs. Finally, we tested once again the students to observe the differences between the first and the second tests‟ results and to find out what was the impact of our manipulation; i.e. to check out our hypothesis. The written productions showed a low degree of the use of compound verbs even after the administration of the feedback; this means that the technique used during the experiment was not sufficient to get significant results. This is the reason why our hypothesis is not confirmed. It proves that we need considerable time for building a serious awareness and for familiarizing learners with such a dynamic vocabulary as phrasal verbs |
