Résumé : |
For being good users of English, learners ought to have large vocabulary banks and master a number of registers. One of the most useful registers is that of „English for tourism‟ because it is highly probable that EFL learners communicate with native speakers in this world of globalization and internet widespread use. This research aims at investigating the problems faced by students in understanding and using English for tourism. It is an attempt to shed some light on how students understand and explain touristic terms and vocabulary items along with some international signs used in this field. The purpose behind the present study is to raise awareness towards the importance of including English for tourism as an integral part of ESP courses in order to improve students‟ communicative competence. To gather as much information as possible about students‟ potential interaction with English touristic terminologies, a questionnaire and a test are used. The results obtained from both tools (students‟ questionnaire and test) revealed that students were, on the whole, unable to deal with English touristic terms successfully. Also, students reported to have some lack of communicative competence in this regard. Following these results, we suggest that Constantine Mentouri Brothers University should program English for tourism as a part of ESP syllabus. |
