Résumé : |
Learning a language is a long and difficult process. Therefore, getting a skill or knowledge often requires much hard work and motivation. Motivation then is a crucial element for EFL learners’ success in speaking English. Thus the present study aims at exploring the impact of reward on the motivation of third year middle school pupils to speak English. This study is based on the hypothesis that if the teachers use reward in the classroom, pupils’ motivation to speak English will improve. In order to confirm this hypothesis we adapted a quantitative research method in which we relied on questionnaires administered to both teachers and learners. In fact the results of both tools have shown that speaking English is best achieved and reinforced by motivation. We come to the conclusion that reward is an effective motivator that enhances ELF learners’ motivation to speak in English. Finally, on the basis of these findings some pedagogical implications are suggested and we hope that they may help teachers in using reward in the classroom |
