Résumé : |
The aim of this study is to introduce nonverbal communication to students mainly since they are sometimes victims of lack of vocabulary and could hardly express themselves in some situations, or could be misunderstood in some other situations, the thing which leads them to use nonverbal codes to support their position. These gestures are introduced and very well organized in the first chapter according to their correct channels to precise the variety of forms under which nonverbal behavior could be shown or expressed. Furthermore, the problems some individuals may encounter both in communicating and interpreting nonverbal language are exposed too. This chapter proposes also some ways to improve nonverbal skills and how to become a good decoder and a good encoder of nonverbal signals. As a survey seemed to be a necessary framework and as a reference in order to have a measure of the current practice in relation to the officially prescribed objectives of the course, an investigation was led in the second chapter through questionnaires and a test to build up the expression of some teachers and students difficulties in using nonverbal communication, and to specify the ways to follow for the improvement of nonverbal self expression. The results obtained from the analysis of this questionnaire allow us to make some remarks which are supposed to appear in details in the last chapter.
It is hoped that this study would arouse a revival of interest within teachers of English oral expression module and would be beneficial to the future of nonverbal communication which will be a useful approach to help students develop their decoding and encoding skills, and to give them the opportunity to use the non-spoken language from the first year licence |

Language Sciences Influence Interference Writing Skill |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The examination of the errors which are due to language interference in third year English students’ writings at University Mentouri Constantine is the main concern of the present study. This research discusses the theoretical background of second language acquisition, language transfer, contrastive analysis, error analysis; in addition to that, it focuses on the writing skill as the most difficult and crucial language skill that learners can put into practice. The purpose of this study is to prove that most of the students face the problem of interference when writing in English as they are thinking in their mother tongue and then transferring their ideas into English and also to prove that reading, raising awareness and the exposure to English are some solutions to overcome this problem. To achieve this purpose, we administered two questionnaires; one for the teachers and one for the students; which contains a general test. The analysis of the questionnaires reveals that; teachers are not raising their students’ awareness enough about language interference; however, they maintain that they often encounter cases of interference. And they believe the exposure to native speakers as well as reading will help students to improve. The students’ questionnaire demonstrates that the majority of third year students do not know what language interference is and they prefer to be warned against this phenomenon, in order to ovoid it in their writings. The results of the test show that most of the students are making errors which are due to language interference and this proves that they are transferring from the Arabic language to the English language |
