Résumé : |
This paper examines money's key role in contemporary American politics in an attempt to
understand the money-democracy political discussion. In a deductive study, this research
tackles the money-democracy debate from a political and economic perspective. It focuses,
particularly, on a certain type of money which is “corporate money”. For a long time, the United
States has upheld a tolerant approach in political finance which permitted corporations to be
politically active. Several ways allow corporations to exercise political activities; this research
focuses precisely on corporate lobbying expenditures and non-individual campaign
contributions. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, this paper assesses the act of lobbying
with its controversy. Besides, it provides an evaluation of the congressional behaviours’
response to the corporate influence in politics. This, in part, comes to study the relationship
between special interests and the gap amid congressional behaviours and public opinion. This
research takes out the lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s case as a narrative inquiry to regard the impact
of money on individuals in the lobbying scheme. Jack Abramoff is an American lobbyist who
has been pleaded guilty for his lobbying activities in Washington on behalf of Native American
tribes. Through Jack Abramoff ‘s case, this work examines the association between money and
corruption. Moreover, from a statistical view, this research takes off the impact of the
pharmaceutical lobby on the prescription drug debate in the 21st century as the case study.
Aiming to measure the effect of a strong and a well-resourced lobby on a vital issue like
citizens’ health. |
