Résumé : |
The present research is carried out to shed light on one of the difficulties that third year
students, of English at the Department of English, University Mentouri – Constantine, face
when speaking the English language. This problem is due to some differences between the
English sound system and that of the Algerian dialects. One of the points to check is to what
extent students’ mother tongues influence their English pronunciation. In order to investigate
this problem, it has been hypothesized that if the third year students at the Department of
English, University Mentouri – Constantine, do not leave aside their mother tongue
phonology, it would have a negative impact on their English pronunciation. To check this
hypothesis and to achieve the aim of proposing solutions to solve students’ problems of
pronunciation, a questionnaire has been administered to a sample of 50 third year students of
English at University Mentouri – Constantine and a recording test has been also administered
to a group of 10 students of the same level. As a result of this research work, the findings
show that there is a negative impact of Students’ mother tongue on their English
pronunciation. |
