It is then conducted to diagnose the main reasons that cause students to fall in this problem. On the light of this, the following hypothesis was stated « the lack of grammar competence leads to confuse between passive and stative constructions ». To test this hypothesis, a questionnaire and a test were designed. The analysis of the findings then gave a clear picture about Master One Students’ unability to distinguish between passive and stative expressions and how the lack of grammar competence is one major cause behind this unability, followed by the EST teachers’ negligence to such constructions during the analysis process of EST texts as a second reason.
