Résumé : |
The present research aims at investigating the significance of the speaking skill for EFL students
and shed light on the psychological factors that may hinder the process of the speaking
performance, by examining both teachers’ awareness and students’ attitudes at University
Mentouri_Constantine1 towards those factors. Consequently, to reach such aims, we
hypothesize that if EFL students overcome the psychological factors that hinder their talk, their
speaking performance may be improved. Therefore, to test the validity of our hypothesis, two
essential questionnaires were used. The first questionnaire was sent (via email) to a random
sample of first year Master students of English at the department of English. The results have
uncovered that because of the fear of speaking in public and of classroom atmosphere, EFL
students’ speaking performance is affected. The second questionnaire was also sent (via email)
to teachers of the department of English at University Mentouri Constantine1, where the results
showed that teachers also concurred that, the fear of speaking in public, make students hesitate
to speak in the classroom. Furthermore, this research study aims at giving some effective and
practical solutions that may improve EFL students’ speaking performance through a
collaboration between both students and teachers. |
