Résumé : |
In the present day there has been a lot of effort to investigate a controversial issue in translation which is "ideology". Translation studies scholars' concern has shifted from studying translation strategies and techniques to a more problematic issue, which is ideology in translation. Currently, Ideology has a critical impact on the translation of political discourse. However, very short research has been undertaken to examine carefully this phenomenon and its role in the authenticity and legitimacy of the political discourse. This study seeks to identify the strategies that are employed by translators in rendering news items with political content. It attempts to investigate whether the meaning of the news items is preserved when translated into Arabic/English (and vice versa) or changed in order to cope with the translators' cultural and political affiliations. For the purpose of the study, we used two methods of research, the first one is texts analysis which was taken from different news media agencies, and the second is students test by selecting various sentences that contain controversial items and discussed how it will be translated. The analysis reveals that translators adopt many strategies in translating those texts. The study also showed that inexperienced translators i.e. students manipulated the text deliberately and spontaneously, as a result of their political and cultural affiliations. Finally, this thesis argues that translation, particularly in the context of media political discourse use ideology as a tool of manipulation |
