Résumé : |
Tenses have an essential role in the process of learning and teaching the English
language. There are many teaching techniques used by teachers in teaching the different tenses;
among these techniques Language games. The current study aims at investigating the effect of
using Language games on teaching and learning the English tenses and checking the hypothesis,
which is: ‘If pupils are taught the English tenses by using language games, this would
enhance their competency’. To fulfil our aim, two means of research are used: a quasiexperiment and a questionnaire. 31 second year foreign languages pupils enrolled at Abou Laid
Doudou Hight School in Bekira, Constantine took part in the quasi-experimental study; and the
questionnaire was designed for 08 high school English language teachers in Constantine. The
obtained results from both means reveal that; first, second year foreign languages pupils have
average knowledge about the English tenses; second, Language games as a technique to teach
tenses is very efficient and it affects positively the pupils’ competency in learning tenses.
Additionally, the analysis of the teachers’ questionnaire show that high school English teachers
have positive attitudes towards using games to teach tenses. |
