Most EFL learners face difficulties to master all the aspects of writing and to
produce acceptable paragraphs or essays. The pupils of Rabah Sahdi secondary school, as
a sample of the Algerian secondary school pupils, find many problems in writing their
paragraphs and composition effectively. This is due to the complexity of the writing skill
and complaining all the time about their problems to write their English academic
composition. This research work attempts to investigate the effects of the Competency-
Based Approach on third-year students’ writing achievement. Thus, we hypothesize that if
English teachers use competency-based approach, then student's writing process will
improve. To verify the validity of this hypothesis, we have conducted classroom
observation and a questionnaire for 04 teachers and 26 students. In addition to, an analysis
is carried out after the observation and the questionnaire. Then, the results reject the
hypothesis that students’ writing proficiency will be enhanced through the use of the
competency-based approach. |
