Résumé : |
The study aims to shed light on one of the main problems that second year students of
English encounter in grammar. They confuse the use of the present perfect and the past
simple tenses. The study attempts to test their ability to distinguish between the two
tenses. On the other hand, we aim to ask teachers about the problems in teaching such
tenses. To achieve this purpose, we hypothesized that the main issue in misusing the
present perfect tense and past simple tense is their similarities in function as well as the
lack of information about the appropriate use of each tense which we consider to be the
role of the teacher. So, there must be extra time and information devoted for the tenses‟
teaching and learning. A sample of 21 second year students of English from the
Department of Languages was randomly chosen. In addition, for our research, we used
a questionnaire for teachers and a test for students as means to gather data. The results
obtained are tabulated and analyzed. |
