Translation of Poetry from Arabic into English addressing more towards. |
Index. décimale : |

Résumé : |
Poetry is known for being an art of wordplay. The process of writing a powerful poem is
challenging, and translating one is near the impossible. The current study is based on
analyzing one hundred 100 translations of five 5 different Arabic poems produced by twenty
20 EFL learners and teachers at the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1. It aims to
identify, explain, and compare the styles used by these translators, format, choice of words,
and images. The study also endeavors to recommend a variety of key procedures and
measures in order to improve translating poetry in matter of efficiency. It was hypothesized
that the combination of the linguistic skills and the knowledge of poetry would serve to
produce a suitable translation of the poem from Arabic into English; thus, a translator from
the Literature/ Civilization branch would make such a translation. However, the analysis
shows that translating a poem is suitably done by participants from the Linguistics/ Applied
Language Studies for their lexical capacities of choosing the suitable diction and saving the
meaning through the style. Finally, it is suggested to addressing students more towards
learning poetry as an art and translation as a practice. |

Difficulties Concurrente in Identifying and Spelling English Homophones. |
Index. décimale : |

Résumé : |
This research work sheds light on a significant issue in both fields of semantics and phonetics
which is the lexical problem of spelling English homophones. This problematic issue is
considered as one of the complicated parts in the process of learning. The major goal of this
study is to show to what extent the unfamiliarity of these lexical words can affect the learner‘s
performance in giving their correct spelling. It also aims at testing the learners‘ ability in
distinguishing between the meanings of English homophones. Through this study, it is
hypothesized that second year students of English at the Department of Letters and English,
university of Mentouri Brothers, Constantine 1 find many problems and difficulties in
understanding and spelling English homophones because of the limited knowledge and the
unfamiliarity with this linguistic phenomenon. Two research tools were used in this study in
order to collect the required data. The first research tool is a questionnaire administered to a
group of 45 students selected randomly from the previously mentioned population to see their
attitudes towards their familiarity and difficulty with English homophones. The second tool
which is the test is carried out with the same sample to check their performance in
understanding, spelling, and making the distinction between them when they are
contextualized or without any context. The data obtained indicate that most of students face
various problems in understanding English homophones, especially when they are noncontextualized. It was also confirmed that the majority of learners are not able to differentiate
between English homophones because of the luck of familiarity and the carelessness of
students about this important aspect in learning English. The results obtained from this
research work show that second year students of English find many difficulties in
understanding and spelling English homophones due to insufficient knowledge and their lack
of awareness of this very important linguistic aspect in the English language. |

Résumé : |
The present study aims at investigating hybrid learning of written expression during the
Covid-19 pandemic. Since the world is in the time of Covid-19 that led to the application of
the hybrid learning, the main concern of this study is to explore its effects on the learning
experiences of students, and to determine whether hybrid learning was effective. The sudden
change of the learning setting and methodology made students feel lost. Therefore; the
hypothesis assumed in this research is to test whether hybrid learning of written expression is
successful and effective. In an attempt to do so, two research tools were used in this study in
order to collect the required data; a questionnaire was administered to 30 Second Year
students at the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1, and an analysis of the lessons
that were sent online. The data obtained indicate that most of students face various problems
when it comes to hybrid learning of written expression, including problems of the internet and
not knowing how to use it accurately, and the fact that written expression is a module that is
preferably taught face to face and it needs a lot of practice and constant feedback that students
did not receive due to the application of the hybrid model. |

Résumé : |
The present study aims at investigating students’ difficulties in understanding the vocabulary
of scientific texts. The main concern of this study is to cover the reasons behind this
problematic issue with scientific vocabulary and what they need to do in order to overcome
this problem. In this respect, it sheds light on the possible strategies that can help them solve
such problems. Therefore, the hypothesis assumed in this research is that if students face
difficulty with the vocabulary of scientific texts, they need strategies to cope with it. In an
attempt to do so, a questionnaire and a test were assigned to first-year Master Students
(Linguistics and Applied Language Studies Option) at the University of Mentouri BrothersConstantine 1. The analysis of findings has shown students’ problems with understanding,
identifying, and explaining scientific terms. This proves a great lack of their vocabulary
knowledge where they cannot even distinguish between technical and semi-technical terms.
Hence, this confirms the hypothesis of this research in which they need specific strategies to
deal with this problematic issue. |

The tree of ELT Background of the Study. |
Index. décimale : |

Résumé : |
The present research highlights students’ knowledge of the present perfect tense. The aim of
the study is to know the extent to which students’ knowledge of present perfect tense and their
ability to use it correctly and appropriately in scientific texts. It also aims at identifying the
areas where students commit most errors on the use of the present perfect tense and to
describe the students’ difficulties in learning it. For the non-native speaker of English, the
present perfect is one of the most difficult tenses in the English verb system. Sometimes, it is
confused with a present tense and at other times with the past tense. The present perfect tense
is probably the most problematic tense for learners .It is not so easy to learn especially for
foreign language learners. In order to check this correlation, it is hypothesized that students’
knowledge of the use and the meaning of the present perfect tense in scientific writing and
speaking would help learners to to improve their writing and speaking skills ‚and thus would
use a large amount of them in their productions. To verify the validity of this hypothesis, a
questionnaire, composed of thirteen (13) questions, was administered to fourteen (14) second
year biology students at the University of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1. Its purpose is to
know the extent to which students use the present perfect tense and whether they have
problems in their background knowledge. The discussion of the results has shown that
students have difficulties in using and understanding the present perfect tense and this
problem will affect their ability to speak and write English effectively. |
