The purpose of this research work is to indicate the main sources of difficulty
encountered by foreign language learners when they write and to see whether reading
as a process could enhance the students’ writing level. For the sake of examining the
hypothesis about whether making students aware of the reading importance in third
Year LMD students could improve their writing level, we used two questionnaires
administered to both teachers of written expression to elicit their opinions about their
students and to third Year LMD students at the Department of English, at the
University of Constantine 1. The results of the questionnaires confirmed that the
reading skill can help learners to overcome the difficulties they face when they write,
to improve their writing level and language style. The findings suggested to the
teachers of Written Expression to include reading activities in teaching writing as
skill, also to raise the students’ consciousness about the role of reading in enhancing
the writing skill, and to make students benefit from reading through motivating them
to read inside/outside the classroom .The findings also suggested to the students to
adopt reading as their hobby in their spare time, in order to facilitate their obstacles
and problems in their writing , and help them to produce successful piece of writing |
