Résumé : |
The present research attempts to investigate the effectiveness of watching English movies on
enhancing the students‟ ability to acquire incidentally new vocabulary. It aims at finding out
whether watching English movies helps in leading students to an incidental learning of new
words, which can be later used in the classroom, i.e. in an academic context. We hypothesized
that when students watch English movies, incidental vocabulary learning happens and the
teachers‟ feedback will have a positive effect on the inappropriate use of the words learnt
inside the classroom. To check the hypothesis, a questionnaire has been administered to a
sample of students and teachers at the department of English, university of Frères Mentouri,
Constantine. The students‟ questionnaire aims to gain an idea about whether the students who
watch English movies learn new words or not and if they use them in their classrooms;
whereas the teachers‟ questionnaire aims to obtain an idea about the teachers feedback on
their students appropriate or inappropriate use. The results obtained from the analysis confirm
our hypotheses that English movies have an effect on the students‟ incidental vocabulary
learning, and that the teachers‟ feedback have a positive effect on guiding the inappropriate
use of the words learnt from watching English movies. |
