Résumé : |
Vocabulary is the most important aspect of any language. Actually, it is the best device that
can be given to learners not only in their instruction, but more generally in their life. It can be
taught in various ways depending on teachers‟ background and students‟ preferences. The
current study is made up of three chapters; the first chapter is about “Vocabulary", the second
one is about “Songs”, and the third one is concerned with the practical part which is entitled
“Motivating Students to learn Vocabulary through Songs". This research; therefore, aims at
investigating whether the implementation of songs in Oral Expression classes can be
beneficial for learners in terms of motivating them to learn vocabulary. It is hypothesized that
if songs are used and introduced in Oral Expression classes, learners will be motivated to
learn vocabulary. Two questionnaires were administered to a sample of (eight) First year Oral
Expression teachers and (twenty) First year students at the Department of Letters and the
English Language, University "Des Frères Mentouri" Constantine 1. The obtained results of
the investigation have confirmed our hypothesis and revealed that the incorporation of songs
in teaching/learning vocabulary can create a pleasant atmosphere that helps learners enjoy
learning. Consequently, songs are a useful aid for teachers in increasing students‟ motivation
towards learning vocabulary. |
