This research reports on the effect of word association game to enhance student’s vocabulary
acquisition.The underlying hypothesis is that if secondry school teachers use word association game
as a technique to teach vocabulary, this may increase student’s acquisition of new vocabulary
items.The educational settings in wich this study takes place is Ibn El Haithem Secondry School on
Didouch Mourad Constantine.A group of 28 learners taken randomly from a total population of 133
( First year literary class) has b this been used as a sample in the present study.To achieve the aim
of this research,answer the research question,and attempt to confirm the validity of the
hypothesis,two research tools has been used,namely :the questionnaire and the test.The
teachers’questionnaire seeks to collect data about the teachers’ experience in teaching
vocabulary,and to investigate on the techniques used to teach vocabulary in their classes.Besides,the
test that took place before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the learners were taught some experimental
lessons and practise some activities in relation to vocabulary through word association to measure
the vocabulary acquired.The result of this investigation confirmed the hypothesis and showed that
word association as atechnique used to teach vocabulary is helped learners to enhance their
vocabulary acquisition.On the basis of the result obtained,some pedagogical implications are
proposed to direct teachers toward the effective way to teach vocabulary,and make learning
vocabulary a motivating activity. |
