Writing is one of the central pillars of language learning and should be of major interest and
concern for researchers, teachers, and students since it enables the latter to express
themselves. However, EFL learners face many obstacles concerning this matter. One of these
obstacles is writing topics’ imposition on students. This research is conducted to investigate
how imposition of writing topics on students may affect their essays. It is hypothesised that
imposing writing topics on the students is likely to affect their essays negatively. The target
population is teachers of second year students at University “Des Fréres Mentouri”,
Constantine 1. The research will be based on data collected from the questionnaire
administered to these teachers. The findings of this study revealed that topic imposition on
students do affect their writing ability. It can be a restriction and limitation which hinders
them to produce good pieces of writing. |
