A number of factors affect the process of learning a foreign language, among which is the
learners’ willingness to communicate. The present dissertation is an endeavor to analyse and
discuss, based on students’ attitudes, the extent to which FL learners’ oral performance is
affected by their willingness to communicate and to identify any obstacles hindering EFL
students from communicating effectively inside the classroom. For that reason, a questionnaire
was administered to twenty-eight second-year students, at the department of English Arts and
Language at the Université des Fréres Mentouri, Constantine1. The analysis of the result have
confirmed the hypothesis, revealing the existence of a significant relationship between the
students’ willingness to communicate and their oral performance. In the end, some conclusions
and pedagogical implications are drawn from the data to help teachers and learners of English
deal effectively with the issue. |
