Résumé : |
Self-efficacy is one of the psychological factors that have a crucial role in the learning
process. It is defined as the beliefs that a learner has in his abilities to succeed and achieve his
goals. The present study investigates the impact of self-efficacy on students’ English speaking
in the oral performances in the English department. Also, it aims at investigating the
relationship between the two variables and how self-efficacy is influenced by its important
sources of information. Besides, it examines the factors that affect students’ self-efficacy when
they speak English and how efficacious teachers play a role in enhancing students’ efficacy
beliefs and create a climate which lets the students be more confident and motivated to speak.
To carry out our work, we hypothesize that the students with high self-efficacy are the ones
who perform successfully in English in the oral classroom than students with low self-efficacy.
In order to investigate the validity of our research, two online questionnaires are designed. The
students involved in the questionnaire were chosen randomly, we have chosen the third-year
students of English at the University of Frère Mentouri, Department of Letters and English
Languages. Furthermore, English teachers of the same department were involved in the
teachers’ questionnaire in order to help us gather data about our study. These questionnaires are
administered to investigate whether self-efficacy influences students’ behavior when they
perform orally in English or it does not have any influence on them. Based on the conclusion
from our study and the results obtained, our hypothesis is confirmed. |
