This study seeks to investigate the development of the students’ speaking skill
by using the communicative language teaching approach (CLT). The main fundamental
problem of this work is that a lot of students are not able to communicate with the
target language properly. The main reason behind this problem is that many teachers use
old methods to teach the speaking skill which focus on teaching a set of grammatical
rules.
The study is based on two questionnaires addressed to Oral Expression teachers and
the other one for the first year students at the Department of English at university of
Constantine to recognize and investigate their attitudes about the speaking skill and the
communicative approach.
The information collected of this study illustrate that the communicative language
teaching is a very useful way to improve the speaking skill. Finally this study aims to
suggest some guidelines as techniques, procedures and strategies that may facilitate for
teacher the way of teaching speaking skill. |
