Worse, nationalization provoked a divergence between the United States and Britain. This dissertation aims to explain the reason behind the divergence of American and British policy toward Egypt, through giving a brief insight in the historical context of the Anglo-Egyptian relations, then the emergence of the new Egyptian regime under the Free Officers in 1952 and a deep insight in the American Policy toward Egypt and the conditions that led to the Crisis. Furthermore, the Cold War, the rise of Arab nationalism and decolonization in the Third World will be discussed. The study intends to present theoretical and methodological approaches used to focus on media discourse as well as the findings of research on the treatment of Islam and Muslims by the mass media. It also involves a critical discourse analysis of the language used in reference to the Muslim and Arab communities in the programming of two U.S television stations, CNN and Fox News, more specifically in their talk shows. Claims of liberal bias were found most convincing however.
