Vocabulary knowledge is a very important aspect in learning any language in the world.
Therefore , EEL learners have to know about all the words and their meanings (L2) . The four
skills of the language ( listening , speaking , reading and writing ) needed vocabulary since it is
a crucial component in the language . Writing skill is recognized as a means of transferring the
writer’s information to the audience . However , EFL learners face different problems related to
lexical aspect of the language while writing . The most common problem is the lack of
vocabulary knowledge . Accordingly to look for ways and strategies that may help pupils to
remember and be able to memorize learned vocabulary and face their writing problems . This
research study aims at investigating the significance of vocabulary knowledge in writing skill .
To achieve this aim , a vocabulary test was administered to thirty pupils of second year at
secondary school Ahmed Redha Hou Hou in Constantine , and teachers’ questionnaire was
administered to seven teachers of English at the same secondary school. The results obtained
from both the test and the questionnaire have shown that pupils are not aware of the significant
role that vocabulary knowledge plays in writing skill. |
