Résumé : |
This paper arose from the perception of a very real problem that undoubtedly
exists in language teaching, namely the lack of student motivation to engage in
writing activities in any shape or form. It tries to gain a more precise understanding of
the reasons for the apparent lack of students’ motivation to write in a foreign
language. In other words, the overarching aim-of the present research- is to determine
the effect of motivation on Master 1 students’ creativity in writing in English at the
University of Mentouri Constantine. Thus, it hypothesizes that students' creativity in
writing will be enhanced if their motivation is increased. The hypothesis was
evaluated by an analytical study inferred from the results of two questionnaires: The
first addressed to teachers of Written Expression, and the second to Master 1 students.
The results of the investigation have shown that students’ creativity in writing
depends indeed on their motivation. Moreover, it demonstrated the crucial role of both
teachers and learners in solving the problem of creativity in writing. In this respect, it
was evident from the analyzed data that both EFL learners' lack of reading (intrinsic
motivation) and teachers' methods (extrinsic motivation) have direct effects on the
learners' creativity in writing. Accordingly, the hypothesis has been validated. |
