The current study aims at showing the importance of familiarizing students with language
learning strategies. It further attempts to examine the possibility of enhancing students’ oral
proficiency through using these learning strategies. The population of this study concerns
third-year LMD students at Mentouri University Constantine 1. The present research is
composed of two chapters. Chapter one reviews the literature and chapter two is the empirical
part. The second chapter consists of tow questionnaires: one for some teachers of oral
expression at Constantine 1University, and another for 3rd year students of English belonging
to the same institution. The purpose behind that is to gauge students’ awareness about the
importance of language learning strategies as a means to enhance the learners’ speaking skill.
The results we have obtained have confirmed the hypothesis. Indeed, students’ oral
proficiency seems that if third year LMD students at Constantine 1 University are familiar
enough and are aware of the effective use of learning strategies, then their oral production
would be increased, to be contingent, at least partly, on their acquaintance and effective use of
