Résumé : |
English as a Foreign Language or English as a Second Language students seem not to be aware of the importance of the speaking skill. Likewise, they are not able to carry out a conversation using the target language. This deficiency is due to many factors that the students encounter during the process of learning. We have noticed that the speaking skill is not given adequate significance at the Department of Letters and the English Language, University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine. The present study, which is made up of three chapters, aims at investigating if the Oral Expression teachers at the Department of Letters and the English Language, University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine, use role play in the classroom for enhancing students‟ speaking proficiency. Two questionnaires were administered to the Oral Expression teachers and second year students of English at the Department of Letters and the English Language, University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine, for the sake of investigating our hypothesis which stipulates that if the Oral Expression teachers under study implement role play as a classroom technique, the students‟ speaking proficiency will increase. The results obtained through both questionnaires have revealed that role play is an effective teaching tool that promotes the students‟ oral English and enriches their spoken communicative skill. |
