Résumé : |
This research scrutinizes the British promises to the Arabs which are embodied in the Faisal-McMahon Correspondence, the provisions of the inter-Allies Sykes-Picot Agreement, and the commitment Britain expressed in the Balfour Declaration to Zionism and the eventual decision to confirm the National Home policy, the Declaration preaches for, by the White Paper of 1922. The first chapter of this thesis explores the two major British endeavours in the area prior to the Balfour Declaration; it aspires to point out the contradictions and inconclusiveness of the British foreign policy regarding the Middle-East in general and Palestine in particular. Furthermore, the second chapter focuses most on the Balfour Declaration and its possible repercussions; it probes the numerous reports about the irrationality and non-viability of the Jewish National Home policy as well as the influential drive that it enjoyed over the British foreign policy-making during the period ranging from 1917 to 1929. The discussion reveals that the wartime British foreign policy vis-Ã -vis the Middle-East and Palestine indulged in bias, and in which irrationality was a dominant aspect throughout the period leading up to 1929. In the end, it can be said that the British diplomacy had been operating within larger imperialistic schemes. |
