Résumé : |
The present study, which is entitled “Investigating Students’ awareness of the use of Perfect Modal
Verbs”, seeks to investigate and to measure the awareness of the learners of English in the
department of letters and English, Faculty of Letters and languages, frères Mentouri University,
Constantine 1, of the use of perfect modals. The latter, which is considered as one crucial aspect of
grammar, could be deemed as a sign that indicates the accuracy of the learners of English in using
either the spoken or the written English. Consequently, a sample of 30 second-year students to work
with was selected randomly; they were asked to answer a test that is administered particularly to
them in order to examine their awareness of the use of perfect modals. On the other hand, and for
more asserted results, a teacher questionnaire, which is designed to the teachers of grammar in the
department of letters and English, Faculty of Letters and languages, frères Mentouri University,
Constantine 1, is another research mean by which significant results were yielded. These two types
of research instruments are adopted to either confirm the hypothesis of this study or disconfirm it
(students of English are not aware of the use of perfect modals). The results obtained finally, went
in the direction of the hypothesis proposed, and this could be a strong reason that leads many
teachers of grammar to take this aspect of grammar into regard. |
