Résumé : |
The present study aims at investigating the relationship between students' self-esteem and
their oral performance .It also aims at raising teachers' awareness about the significant role of
self-esteem in boosting students' oral performance. In this research work, it is hypothesized
that if second year LMD students of English have high level of self-esteem, then they will
trust their own abilities and in turn will be motivated to improve their oral performance. We
administered two questionnaires to 8 oral expression teachers and a sample of 40 second year
LMD students at the department of foreign languages at the University of Constantine 1. The
results obtained from the analysis of the questionnaires show that there is a positive
relationship between students' self-esteem and their foreign language oral performance. The
analysis of both questionnaires reveals that teachers and students support the role and
importance of self-esteem as an affective factor in boosting their oral performance .Overall,
high self-esteem students are more likely to be involved in the classroom activities and
conversations, because they have positive self-judgement of themselves when speaking the
foreign language. |
