Résumé : |
This research work aims at describing and analyzing the students‟ use of English prepositions with a particular reference to “in”, “on”, “at”. It attempts to identify whether Algerian students face difficulties in using English prepositions, and to what extent Standard Arabic affects their usage. This dissertation is based on the assumption that Algerian students make negative transfer from Standard Arabic when they use English prepositions. For this purpose, a test is given to first- year students at the University of Constantine. The analysis of the test has shown that students made a negative transfer from Standard Arabic when using the prepositions “in”, “on”, “at”. So, the identification of students‟ errors and their sources will help to draw teachers‟ attention to the phenomenon of negative language transfer in order to provide learners with the necessary knowledge of the prepositional usage in English. |
