Résumé : |
The United States of America, also called, the New World where different ethnic
groups live side by side, was and remains an exceptional nation through its history, the
composition of its inhabitants and the vastness of its territory. The question to raise is whether
the ruling authorities applied a double standard domestic policy towards human rights from
1950 to 1960 or not. We can say that the double standard policy was clearly perceived
because the degree of enforcement of laws turned out to be very low due to the opposition of
southern states, former supporters of slavery. But, it must be recognized that this period saw a
great breakthrough regarding human rights. Indeed, the two most important laws of racial
segregation in the field of education and transportation were declared unconstitutional by
judges of the Supreme Court. Moreover, the abuses recorded from 1950 to 1960 by the anticommunist
movement of McCarthyism were stopped in 1954 in the name of freedom of
expression. The American double standard policy towards human rights started to end thanks
to many fair and modernist leaders who paved the way for egalitarianism and true justice |
