Résumé : |
The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of the Great Depression on women in
the USA. This economic recession affected them severely in their daily lives. This research
aims to present women as a gender minority in the American society, and to unveil their role
as well as their struggle to politically participate in the government at a time of crisis. The
Great Depression had affected the lives of women on both sides:negatively and positively.
Most importantly however, this Depression granted women opportunities to impose their
presence and abilities in the twentieth century. This study explores the struggle of Eleanor
Roosevelt, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Francis Perkins; three leading women in the history
of USA. They fought hard to balance personal and political life and to carry the
responsibilities of women and men at once. The study allows then the reader to have a deep
understanding of the impact of the 1929 Great Depression on women and to weigh its pros
and cons. |
