Résumé : |
Being able to remember and recall unfamiliar words and new information is a challenge for EFL learners and because of that, many learners try to follow some strategies that can help their memory to retain information and help them in learning new words and recalling them easily. These strategies are called mnemonic strategies. The present research study aims at investigating the importance of mnemonic strategies and their role in enhancing English students’ vocabulary learning and recall. We hypothesize that the use of mnemonic and its strategies may affect positively the vocabulary learning and recall of the EFL learners. To test this hypothesis, we have used two questionnaires: one is addressed to third year English students (50 students) and the second one is addressed to teachers of Written and Oral Expression (10 teachers) at the university of Bros. Mentouri in the academic year 2016-2017. The results of both questionnaires show that both teachers and students find that mnemonic devices are central in the learning and retainment of vocabulary. The research hypothesis has been, then, confirmed. |
